課程概述

(1). Why (and how) bio-macromolecules exist in specific structure?
-- Structure of biomacromolecules and forces stabilizing them
- hydrogen bonding
- electrostatic interaction
- hydrophobic interaction
- protein folding/unfolding

(2). How do protein molecules regulate their activity through binding?
-- Simple chemical equilibrium and kinetics concepts say it all
- ligand binding
- cooperative binding
- enzyme kinetics

(3). How do macromolecules move in the cellular environment?
-- Transport mechanism of biomolecules
- random walk and diffusion
- active transport
- life of E. coli in our body, swimming??

(4). Seeing is believing. How to see biochemical processes at work?
-- Molecular cameras and imaging
- fluorescence imaging
- single-molecule methods

(1). 用簡單的化學, 物理概念來解釋生物體系的運作及調控.
(2). 不用背誦, 不用複雜的計算, 也可以認識有趣的生物體系.
